The workshop hosts of Springbank Studio
Introducing Maria Zvaric, the artist and illustrator behind our popular Pressed Flower Frame Workshops. Maria’s work is deeply inspired by the natural world, travel, and fond childhood memories growing up in Romania. Maria had a love of painting from a young age, and after working as a graphic designer gradually found her way back to her true love.
One of Maria’s favourite products to create is the humble greeting card. There's something special about sending or receiving a card, it’s such an affordable way to brighten someone’s day. Maria first thoughtfully hand paints her designs before turning them into high quality prints for greetings cards as well as other products such as calendars and wall art, which you can find in her shop.
Maria teaches lots of different workshops from bookbinding to watercolour, and her most popular pressed flower frame workshop. Over a few weeks Maria collects and presses flowers and leaves, before arranging them in brass frames as a form of meditation. The process requires patience, as you slowly build up layers to create a mini landscape. You can see what workshops Maria has coming up on her website.
Alongside her creative practice, Maria runs Made Local, a series of markets, pop-ups and workshops, with another local maker Mag’s. Last Christmas they hosted their first ever pop-up at Springbank, and they might just be back this year… Watch this space and sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear about it.
